Brisbane Automatic Gate Systems has been designing, fabricating, and installing electric gates across Brisbane and South East Queensland for over 25 years. The price ranges below reflect what our Brisbane clients are actually paying — for both residential and commercial installations.
Depending on many factors your typical residential automatic gate installation can range from $700 upwards. If you want to have added security feature or need a more sophisticated system, such as intercoms, this can start from $1,500 upwards. For most clients, the range is $2,500–$6,000+ for supply and professional installation. Into the tens of thousands for commercial-grade security gates. There are a number of considerations, though, when looking at your gate automation.
Factors Affecting Gate Cost
1. Electric Driveway or Commercial Gate
Generally speaking residential gates will be lower cost than commercial as they do not require as much security or level of communication sophistication of a commercial grade gate. That being said we are noticing many more people are investing a lot more into their own home security. This means bigger gates, more advanced security systems and more investment into the gate itself.
2. Gates & Automation or Automation Only
For those who already have existing gates, installing automation may be all that is required. This may include a replacement of an ageing automatic gate system or the installation of a new system on a gate that was previously managed manually. If you have an existing gate we may be able to add automation to it, however it usually requires us to have a look to see what we are dealing with first, before we know if it can be truly automated.
3. Swing or Slide Electric Gates
Depending on your entrance you may need a sliding gate. This can come with its own set of challenges as a sliding gate must run along tracks that support its operation. These tracks have to be precisely positioned on a flat surface to function properly. We find that sliding gates are commonly installed on properties that have a small land surface area or near main roads where it is not functional to have a gate swing open.
4. Size & Number of Gates
This one is pretty obvious. The more gates you need or the larger they are the more expensive they will be. Some driveways will require two gates for proper coverage. Others require larger gates – maybe for security or maybe because the driveway is simply so large.
5. Power Options
A common thing people do not consider when thinking about automatic gate costs is the power supply to power the gate. Unless you already have power running to the gate itself you may need to factor in the installation cost of power to the gate. This is generally not too expensive, but without power your gate will not function, so it is rather unavoidable.
Solar Power
Solar power is a great option to consider, when trying to balance automatic gate costs for the future. Solar powered gates will reduce the amount of energy consumed from the grid and save you money into the future. These systems are especially great for gates that are being opened and closed often throughout the day.
6. Access Control Add-On Costs
- Wireless keypad
- Video intercom
- Card reader / swipe access
- Smartphone / Wi-Fi control
- RFID, ANPR, or building management integration
7. Civil and Electrical Works
Site-specific costs that are easy to overlook include concrete footings for tracks, motor pads, and guide posts, trenching for power and control cabling, and electrical connection by a licensed electrician (required for 240V mains). On a flat residential block with power nearby these costs are minimal. On a sloped block, existing paved driveway, or large commercial site they can add $1,000’s to the project.
8. Annual Maintenance Costs
Budget for professional gate servicing depending on gate type, usage frequency, and environment. Coastal and high-traffic sites benefit from more frequent servicing. Our Preventative Maintenance Agreements give commercial clients priority scheduling and 20% off replacement parts.
